Medical Images Resource Guide

Where to find Images from library subscriptions as well as freely available sources.

May I use this image?

Most of the links on this guide have copyright information listed in the description, but it is always good policy to read the website or database's copyright and usage policies.  Some websites allow free use of their images, while others require asking permission and paying a fee.  The majority of the resources listed in this guide allow the use of their images for educational, noncommercial, or personal use as long as the source is acknowledged.

When using images downloaded from a website or database you should:

  • Follow all usage terms on the website or database.
  • Credit the source of the image.  Include as much information as you can, such as author, title, date, and URL.

If possible:

  • Find out if the owner/creator of the image states how the image can be used.
  • Ask the copyright holder of the image for permission to use the image and keep a record of this correspondence.
  • When in doubt contact the library.
