The Experimental Approach section

On the ​FIRE proposal template there is a section for Experimental Approach that is not ​typically part of the structure of a literature review. In this section, students state the experimental approach is a literature review. Things to consider including in this section are:

What type of review are you conducting:

  • Most literature reviews are narrative reviews, though some students may conduct systematic reviews.

The purpose of the literature review. Some examples are: 

  • Synthesize and compare evidence
  • Overview research area and track development over time
  • Critique and synthesize

The intended audience. Some examples are:

  • Physicians
  • Policy Makers
  • Patients

What contributions to the literature will your review make? Some examples are:

  • Inform policy and practice
  • State of knowledge
  • Themes in literature
  • Historical overview
