Game On! CE with Gary Maixner

Class Description:  If you're looking for a teaching method that serves student-directed learning and gets students excited, play a game! Games are a fun and serious way to engage and teach students of all levels. Designed for librarians, this course will enable you to decide if game-based learning is a good fit for your course or session, design tabletop games that serve your learning outcomes, and facilitate game playing in the classroom.

Presenter:  Gary R. Maixner III is the User Experience/Project Management Librarian at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He is also a game designer and artist. His two library-based games, Search&Destroy and Trust Issues, have both sold several hundred copies and are used in libraries world-wide to teach students information literacy concepts. His work on the first-year experience game, enRolled, was awarded Best in Show at Games + Learning + Society in 2022

Mindfulness with Kelsa Bartley

Kelsa Bartley is a Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT 200 Hour) based in North Miami, FL. Kelsa’s yoga journey began in 2006, when she discovered the benefits of yoga and meditation in college while pursuing her undergrad degree. She gained her certification in 2021 and has training for trauma-informed and adaptive practices. She is taking her training to the next level, currently pursuing additional 300 Hour CYT, Ayurveda nutrition and mediation certifications.

Kelsa is also the Education and Outreach Librarian in the Learning, Research & Clinical Information Services Department at the Louis Calder Memorial Library, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Book Talk with Christopher Willard

Join author, psychologist and consultant Dr. Christopher Willard in this talk on the science of mindful resilience for all ages. Dr. Willard will be neuroscience based practices that can be used by teachers, therapists, and others looking for creative ways to share mindfulness based self regulation practices to boost learning, mental health and more. We will explore mindfulness through awareness, movement, games, play, and creative activities for all ages.

Dr. Christopher Willard, (Psy. D.) is a clinical psychologist, author and consultant based in Massachusetts. He has spoken in thirty countries, and has presented at two TEDx events. He is the author of twenty books, including Alphabreaths (2019), Growing Up Mindful (2016) and How we Grow Through What we Go Through. (2022) His thoughts on mental health have been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, mindful.org, cnn.com, and elsewhere. He teaches at Harvard Medical School.
